Here’s one of the reasons I love living in the DC area: this is what we did last night. I’m not a huge fan of opera (actually, to be honest, I don’t like the women’s solos at all–it sounds like screeching to me), but you can’t beat lying on the outfield on a warm night watching for free a performance that people across town are paying through the nose to attend. It was great. And we got to see the new stadium (which we hadn’t yet) and wander around the field. Not an opportunity that comes up often.
No knitting came with me, though W did see one woman knitting something that I hope, for her sake, was made out of frozen yarn to offset the oppressive humidity. I have actually been knitting, lack of blog postings notwithstanding. I finally started Tempest, which I swatched for months ago. My gauge is off (too small), so I’m making a larger size than I would normally. So far, I’ve made it up to the shoulders on the back. Progress pictures at this point are so stupendously boring that I’ll only subject you to one. The camera lies; the yarn really isn’t quite so fluorescent.
Knitting with such fine-gauge yarn on something as big as a cardigan at times gets a bit boring as well, so I went off in search of some sort of quick project I could knock out with stash yarn. This is what I came up with:
- pattern: Eyelet Yoke cardigan
- yarn: Blue Sky Alpacas Dyed Cotton
- needles: US size 8
This is the last baby gift in this round, thank goodness. My goal is now to finish Tempest during a season in which it would be appropriate to actually wear it. I have months, so the odds are good, though you never know.

The baby cardigan is super cute!
Your little baby sweaters are always so adorable.
Love the baby sweater!
